Private Training
For those who want the careful instruction of an expert private trainer for Boxing or Muay Thai or general fitness in the Pasadena area.
I am available for private training in our club.
The training consists of:
-Assisted stretching and flexibility exercises
-Sport specific conditioning and total body toning exercises
-Detailed comprehensive instruction in proper technique and strategy
-How to get the most out of equipment like the punching bag, power shield, focus mitts, Thai pads, belly shield and sparring gear.
When I first start with a new client we decide what our goal should be and then make a plan to reach that goal. Results of course do not happen overnight so we decide on a reasonable time frame to achieve certain benchmarks. When I ask people (especially beginners) what they want to achieve they are often not really sure but say things like; I need to lose some weight, I want to get into shape, I want to learn a self defense, learn how to be good at boxing or do Muay Thai training etc. (I have a background in traditional martial arts and can teach you all the fundamentals of Karate as well.)
Finding a realistic goal is important. Its my job as a personal trainer to assist you in finding out what you want and need. I may be able to help you in more aspects than you think. Martial arts and Muay Thai training in its purest form is a lifestyle. Fitness is also pathway of personal discovery and development. The many peripheral benefits of Mongoose Fight System training can and should spill over into other areas of your life. The "whole" person, mind body and spirit is affected. I like a somewhat "Holistic" approach and often remind myself and customers of this. Some of the other benefits of personal training include a boosted immune system, lowered blood pressure, increased self esteem and confidence, more creative energy, peace and serenity, emotional stability, mental fortitude etc.

Mikaela Mayer
In July of 2007 a 17 year old girl walked into my old gym in West Hills. She was looking for change after a bad relationship too much partying and not being scheduled to graduate from high school on time. After a few months of my intense training she had an epiphany suddenly realizing that this was what she was meant for. She never looked back and poured all of her energy into this one thing. It turned her life around. 80
bouts and 6 years later she is the USA boxing national champion, Continental games gold medalist, world games bronze medalist and ranked #1 in the world by the AIBA... Update; Mikaela Mayer qualified for the 2016 Olympics and competed in Beijing. She is now a former Olympian. Update; Turned pro in 2017 and now is the first female fighter to get a contract with Top Rank Boxing. https://www.toprank.com/all-fighters/mikaela-mayer/
Greg Yates
A law attorney. He started training with me at 43 years of age. He never thought he would be good enough to get into the boxing ring but after a year or so of doing my realistic training drills he was able to handle himself in the ring against other professional fighters! After a while he described to me how the benefits of training spilled over into his professional business. He said it gave him more mental endurance as well as physical. The training made him more resilient was able to fight back harder and wear out his opponents in the courtroom!

I got a call from a guy who is VP of a motion picture production company wanting to do some training. We were about the same age late 40s. His lower back was painful to the touch and he had a knotted up hip flexor from an Achilles tendon tear that caused him to favor one side. He didn't want me to touch it but I convinced him to let me do some deep tissue work on it. It was painful at first but with a variety of rehab exercises and regular training his pain decreased and he can now move more freely. He had a week left hook at the start but now he punched with speed power and proper form. He is also learning how to do Muay Thai kicks as well. There was time when he was faced with both professional and personal challenges and he had huge amounts of stress in his life. Boxing became his refuge as he shared life's issues with me. He shared with me that the training helped him get through some tough times... What is it that you need to overcome or discover about yourself? Its my job to help facilitate that process... Ric-

If you are going to get the most out of your training you need to decide that you are going to relax settle down and enjoy every aspect of the process. Some people will begin to see and feel certain results immediately. Others take longer. Once you decide what you want, I take into consideration your age, health, weight, experience etc. To set a good short term goal I like to use the natural rhythms of life. A natural "season" that goes from sowing to reaping is 3 to 4 months. That would be a good time frame to set a goal for yourself and get into good shape. So give yourself a chance to feel what it's like to work hard achieve a goal and earn a big dose of self confidence.
I first start with the fundamentals of fitness.
The first couple of weeks involves getting your body tuned up and adjusted in the initial "acclimation" stage. This includes: assisted stretching and flexibility exercises, sports massage, drilling basic boxing or Muay Thai techniques, mild cardio exercises, swing stretching, jump rope, treadmill, heavy bag work, Thai pads or focus mitts, power shield, footwork drills, weight training etc. I also can teach techniques for developing internal power. As training progresses the intensity increases and we can begin the A.R.I.T. sparring drills (if so desired). I have a background in martial arts so I can also teach the basics of traditional karate (Korean style like Tae kwon do) If you are a fighter the focus will be on what you need to accomplish in the ring.
